File guidelines

Best file types for clean engraving

Vector files give the cleanest laser results. Raster images still work for proofs and reference, but may need tracing or cleanup before production.

  • Best: SVG, PDF, DXF, AI
  • Accepted: PNG, JPG, GIF
  • Helpful: high contrast, clear edges, black-and-white logos
  • Needs review: blurry screenshots, tiny text, gradients, low-res photos

Common questions

Before you upload

Can I upload a PNG or JPG?

Yes. PNG and JPG files are accepted, but they may need cleanup or tracing before they are production-ready for laser engraving.

Is a PDF always laser-ready?

No. A PDF can contain vector paths, but it can also simply contain a raster image. Hoyt’s will review each file before production.

Can I submit a business logo?

Yes. SVG, PDF, DXF, or AI logos are preferred. If you only have a PNG or JPG, upload the highest-resolution version you have.

Will you send a proof first?

Yes. For custom engraving work, the goal is to confirm layout and details before anything goes to the laser.
